The Church of Christ

What must I Do to be Saved ?

The most universal and pressing problem of man is SIN. "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God...,"Romans 3:23. Sin separates man from God, Isaiah 59:1- 2. The wages of SIN is DEATH, Romans 6:23. Eternal punishment in hell is clearly taught in Scripture, Luke 16:19-3. The Lord Jesus, Himself, taught that there are but TWO DESTINIES OF MAN: "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life," Matthew 5:41-46.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ brings the GOOD NEWS of the GRACE OF GOD...news that God in His justice has provided the WAY for man to be saved from sin. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me,"John 14:6. By the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross at Calvary he requirement of justice for sin has been met, John 3:16. In the cross, God's justice is satisfied. The only glory we have is through Christ in the cross, "But may it never be that I should boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world," Galatians 6:14.

How does the Church of Christ answer the
question - WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?

The Church of Christ is the spiritual body of Christ.

Colossians 1:18 "And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre-eminence."

The church is not a humanly devised organization. The members of this spiritual body did not join it as some would join a social club. When one learns from God's word, one's faith in God begins to grow.

Romans 10:17 "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

As one learns God's will for man he will want to render obedience to that will. This involves repenting of one's sinful life...and turning from the slavery of sin to serving God.

Acts 17:30 "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent:"

Just as the Ethiopian eunuch learned of Christ from Philip.  One must HEAR the word....:

Acts 8:36-37 "And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speakeh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunch said, See here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

Once you have HEARD the word, you have HEARD what the Bible teaches. Jesus said,

Mark 16:16 "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be condemned."

When you have HEARD, and BELIEVE, and REPENT (Acts 17:30).  Jesus also said,

Matthew 10:32 "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven."

How does the Church of Christ answer the question -
WHAT IS BAPTISM?

The apostle Paul gives the clear and precise answer:

Romans 6:3-6 "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."

After we obey God's will we are FORGIVEN of sins by God's grace,

Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"

And, we are ADDED by the LORD to HIS CHURCH,

Acts 2:47 "Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."

We continue to grow in spiritual maturity living a FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN LIFE,

Revelation 2:10 "Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."

It is our FERVENT PRAYER that you, our dear friend, will not go to the judgement without investigating the teachings of the Word of God. WHY? BECAUSE YOUR HAPPINESS AND PEACE OF MIND ON THIS EARTH AND YOUR EXISTENCE IN ETERNITY DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU DO - NOW! We urge you to study the Bible and follow it as the only infallible guide in religious matters
